Organic Product Development
Empowering Teams.
Incremental and iterative development approaches were ultimately embodied in a school called Agile Software Development. Agile expanded into a movement. Various incarnations, including Scrum and Extreme Programming, emerged.
Regardless of the specific implementation, the customer is the centerpiece. There is a heavy emphasis on relationships that are personal, genuine and continuous.
This "organic" customer relationship makes feature iteration go faster (what's faster than a conversation?). At the same time, it's rich enough to fuel a much broader range of innovation and marketing initiatives.
How can parent organizations help? Three ways: They can add significant value to team decision-making capability by offering individual training in creative thinking and problem solving, by modifying their own cultures and environments to promote innovation, and by shielding teams from unnecessary distractions.
